WE WILL REMEMBER
Thank you to PP Corrine for her excellent work on preparing an exemplary event held to celebrate International Day of Peace. The event was held at the Indigenous Heritage Site on the Charlottetown waterfront. Our Peace Pole was the backdrop for our many speakers including Indigenous representatives who offered a traditional Water Blessing as well as singing and dancing. Federal, Municipal and the Public Schools Branch speakers had positive messages of Peace for all in attendance.
Our special event marking the 20th Anniversary of the Council of the Federation of Literacy Awards was well attended by Members and special guests including the 2024 winners of the Award, the Mi'kmaq Confederacy of PEI. Thank you to Chair Kevin Lewis for hosting such a remarkable meeting that recognizes Rotary's commitment to Literacy not only at home but across the world.
This past Monday our Club hosted our annual Remembrance Day ceremony at the Rodd Charlottetown Hotel. Chaired by Angus Orford the ceremony was moving and relevant. Angus spoke on the 100th anniversary of the RCAF and most notably the "Canso Pilot".
As well, Capt Greg Gallant spoke of the role PEI played in the training of RCAF personnel on the Island. A service of Remembrance was conducted which included a Moment of Silence, hanging of a wreath, and Revielle played by Zach Fugate, son of Member Emma Fugate.
The new Lt Governor and his wife, Dr Wassim Salamoun & Her Honor Marie Salamoun Dunn were in attendance as well as Mayor Brown, MLA Dillon, representatives from Provincial Command and Branch #1 Legion, Veteran Sgt Reid, the RCMP and Leona Connick who represented the Military Resources Association. Regrets were sent to the Club from the Premier King and Senator Francis who had previously booked obligations and could not attend. Thank you to all who attended!
As always you can find pictures and additional writeups on our Club face book site for all our events and postings.
See you all November 18th at the Library Auditorium where PP Chishti will host the wrap up AGM for 2023-2024.
