Meeting Minutes

Meeting Chair Moe Rodgerson opened the meeting and asked all those in attendance to join in the Island Hymn and Rotary Grace.

Dale Turner, Sargent of Arms canvassed the group for happy dollars.

Secretary Kim Nickerson provided her report.

  • 36 members present, no scooters, no make ups.
  • Peggy Coady Compton hosted guest Donna McIver.
  • Kim Nickerson (not rigged!) won the 50/50 draw, but did not win the jackpot. The jackpot currently stands at $528.

President Rick Gallant provided members with his weekly report.

  • Rotarians were informed of the passing last week of Dorothy Orton, wife of past President Ron Orton and the mother of past President Gail Orton.
  • Rick thanked Edna for filling in his Presidential shoes while he was away.
  • Rick reminded Rotarians that the seniors viewing stand will be set up for the Gold Cup Parade on Friday and asked for volunteers to help that morning.
  • Volunteers are needed starting at 8am and area asked to meet at the green area next to the old Prince Edward home.
  • A truck is needed that morning to transport items from Ivan Morrison’s home to the site. Anyone able to lend a hand with this request are asked to contact Rick directly.
  • Wear your Rotary volunteer t-shirt if you have one.
  • Final reminder of the fellowship night on August 18th at Camp Gechef starting at 6pm. It is rumored that past president Edna will be the entertainmentJ. Secretary Kim will send out an email asking for final confirmation of attendance. The cost of the meal is the same as the Monday meeting - cash only. Children under 12 eat free.
  • Rick reminded board members of the meeting on Thursday August 14th.
  • Rick noted that selection of the new chairs for all committees will happen this week. The surveys you completed will help us determine what committees you will be on. If you have not completed your survey, please do so and submit to Rick.
  • Rick noted several birthday and anniversary milestones.

Moe introduced guest speaker and fellow Rotarian Wes MacAleer.

  • Wes has had a varied career spanning the country from the North West Territories to PEI.
  • He worked in NWT for 20 years in cable TV and land development.
  • Upon his relocation to PEI, Wes worked with the Guardian newspaper and in provincial government.
  • Wes is a distinguished member of many boards including Entrepreneur Form, First Angels Network, Stars for Life Foundation and lifetime member of Junior Achievement
  • We are proud to have Wes as a member of the Rotary Club of Charlottetown and pleased to have had him speak today at our club.

Co-chair Bush Dumville thanked Wes for his talk on land development.

 

Meeting Chair Moe closed the meeting by asking the group to sing O Canada.
