Meeting Minutes

Meeting Chair Dale Turner opened the meeting and asked all those in attendance to join in the Island Hymn and Rotary Grace.

Sargent at Arms Bush Dumville surveyed the group for happy dollars. Bush also fined all those Rotarians $1 who did not submit their surveys to Rick!

Secretary Kim introduced all guests of Rotary and Rotarians.

  • There were 31 members present, 2 scooters and 3 makeups to be credited
  • The 50/50 winner Allison Swan; he did not draw the queen of hearts so the jackpot continues to grow.

President Rick gave his address.

  • Rick reminded everyone that their Rotary dues are required to Craig Bradley.
  • He also informed the group that the fellowship event for July was going to be postponed as he will be out of the country.
  • Rick encouraged everyone to submit their surveys so we can move forward with committee selection.
  • The board will be meeting on July 15th at the Wood Gundy Board Room.
  • Rick also shared several anniversaries and birthdays with the group.

Ann Sherman, Assistant District Governor, presented President Rick with the Rotary theme banner. The 2014-2015 RI President Gary C.K. Huang has chosen this year’s theme to be Light Up Rotary.

Meeting Chairperson Dale Turner introduced our guest speaker Lt. Col (Retired) Neil Thompson.

  • Neil is the son of Don Thompson, longtime Rotarian of our club.
  • Neil had a long and distinguished career in the Canadian Armed Forces with more than 30 of the 44 years in various command and staff positions in the defense, civilian and international intelligence communities.
  • He retired in 2010 and he and wife Kathy then started WCGroup, which is an intelligence and Geospatial Intelligence consulting firm in Ottawa.
  • Upon completion of his talk Neil gave Dale an official coin of the intelligence branch of Canadian military.
